With this update in reservations, foodies and discerning restaurant-goers in and around the Austin, Texas area can try to secure a table at one of the east side’s most exclusive and highly rated omakase (chef’s choice) speakeasys (a restaurant shrouded in secrecy.) Sushi | Bar Hospitality is owned by Top Chef contestant Phillip Frankland Lee and pastry chef Margarita Kallas-Lee, an Eater Young Gun 2016 semi-finalist.

Sushi | Bar Hospitality began as an ATX pop-up in December 2020 – a concept developed to keep staff employed when indoor, on-site dining was prohibited by pandemic policy. Scheduled to run as such through January 2021, the restaurant was so immediately popular, the owners made the high concept sushi spot a permanent restaurant. As a pop-up, Sushi | Bar Hospitality had a waitlist of over 100 aspiring patrons. As a semi-secret speakeasy, their popularity hasn’t waned. Newly updated reservation availability gives residents the chance to book their January 2023 table.

Nobu trained head chef Ambrely Ouimette is responsible for developing a 10 – 17 course menu and onboarding and educating the staff at the Los Angeles and Montecito locations, with the latter being awarded a Michelin Star in 2021.

The menu at Sushi | Bar Hospitality ATX includes “new-wave” nigiri, and whimsical interpretations of traditional sushi fare enhanced with shaved truffles, foams, crafted fermented powders, salts, koshos, and blowtorched nigiri specialties.

The small, intimate, unmarked venue features a single counter behind which chefs prepare the night’s menu and in front of which only 10 customers per night can take in the pageantry.

A representative of Sushi | Bar Hospitality says, “Hidden within Austin’s beloved East Side, Sushi Bar’s specially curated Omakase experience is comprised of a rotating menu including seasonal ingredients from both land and sea. Throughout your time at Sushi Bar, you can expect innovative riffs on traditional favorites as the chefs prepare a playful reverie on new wave nigiri and other delicacies.”

With their newly updated reservation schedule, Sushi | Bar Hospitality is featuring a $159 per person menu, and the opportunity for customers to enjoy an exclusive dining experience that began as a way of keeping the restaurant sector buoyant.
