The newly-released blend is certified organic and fair trade, making it an ethical choice that directly supports the micro-farms growing the beans.
The premium blend is made of two varieties of arabica coffee: the caturra and the catuai beans. The coffee is grown in the prestigious origin territory of Costa Rican coffee: the Alajuela province of the Central Valley region. The area benefits from rich volcanic loam soil and a well-defined growing season, producing the region’s characteristic rich taste.
The beans are grown at an altitude of between 1300 and 1445 meters above sea level and are Strictly Hard Bean (SHB) certified. This means that the slow growth which characterizes high-altitude growing conditions has resulted in a denser, more flavorful bean.
Once grown, the beans are eco-pulped, which is a drying process also known as a “honey wash.” Using techniques midway between the dry and wet wash method, the skin is removed from the coffee cherries, and then they are sun-dried. This results in a smoother, less acidic taste. The beans are then hand-sorted to ensure top quality.
The Costa Rican coffee blend is available in 12oz, 1lb, 2lb, and 5lb bags, and can be ordered in a standard grind, an espresso grind, or as whole beans.
