Behind Elena Bulatova’s Art
How did Elena develop her love of color that is so present throughout her art?
Color is very important in Elena’s work. When she moved to California, the main colors were those of nature in a neutral palette, with lots of brown mountains. As a result, her work was mostly in gray and brown, inspired by the mountains. When she drives from Palm Springs to Las Vegas, everything is brown. The bright colors are a celebration of life – blue sky, bright beaches, and colorful vegetation. Her signature colors became orange and red, and she also has a Rainbow Colors Series. She later started her “Splash” series with ombre effects from yellow to orange and from orange to red.
Elena’s signature elements of popsicles and melting ice cream bring out the inner child and playfulness in people. How did she open that inner child’s love of life and colors within her?
Does she feel that as a new mom with two small children, she will take it to a whole new level? Elena began her work with abstracts. Being a Capricorn, resembles her life, where she overcame obstacles and sought new challenges and achievements. After mastering abstracts and finding many art collectors, she began the melting popsicles series since they live in a hot climate and everything is always melting. She started with melting popsicles in different colors, making them bigger, and created the melting ice cream series in Rainbow, Ombres, and other bright colors. She didn’t have children then. Now, she sees her children with all their energy and playfulness, and it helps her reflect that in her art. Many of her collectors wanted uplifting art pieces with a spark of life! When they come to the gallery, they start smiling and are delighted to look at the art, which takes them away from their routine and transports them into a different, colorful universe.
How many galleries does Elena have right now? Where can people find her art?
Many galleries in Florida and Los Angeles carry her art. Recently, after Covid, they launched various digital options for viewers. Elena is always looking forward to embracing modern technologies and innovations. Back in 2017, Elena Bulatova Fine Art was the first gallery in Vegas to accept Bitcoin and other digital currencies. How did Elena Bulatova Fine Art develop further in that direction?
Elena Bulatova Fine Art comes from the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, where they launched their first NFT Exhibit. The Gift of Sight Digital Art Collection consists of landscape images donated that people find beautiful or inspiring — and then digital artists overlay filters that represent visual impairment. The collection is an expression of living with visual impairment.
Elena shared some interesting high-profile projects she worked on. Elena Bulatova Fine Art has had many projects like that, and it’s hard to select one. One that comes to mind right away is a project with Tim Cook in La Quinta. They decorated a whole house while working with a builder on it. He moved into the house with their art but then wanted to have more custom art, and it was very exciting to continue working with him in person. She also worked just recently with Michelle and Anthony Zuiker, the creators of CSI. She also knows that the singer Maluma has one of her Lollipops as well. Her art has been in more than 30 Hollywood productions.
Her art has been featured in more than 30 Hollywood and Netflix shows, including the latest show “Inventing Anna” featuring her red Lollipop measuring 12 ft. Her 7-ft melting popsicle was also featured on the Big Brother show. Additionally, she created a popsicle for the largest ship in the world, Royal Caribbean. The list goes on.
How do the artist couple inspire each other?
They inspire each other to share their artistic vision. Elena started her art in 2011, and as a beginning artist, she needed a lot of feedback and guidance. Efi supported her a lot and gave her a healthy dose of criticism that she didn’t always like. Eventually, she received a lot of recognition, and her art was sold around the world. She gained her own voice in art. When she opened a gallery, they had a lot of empty space on the walls, which they saw as lots of places for expression.
How does Elena like her Art Gallery location at Crystals Shops, City Center?
They lived in Veer Towers for 7 years, and she really loves the Shops at Crystals. She was 32 when she opened their first gallery here. She is so proud to be part of the City Center, which is a trademark of excellence and perfection. Their gallery is located between Cartier & Van Cleef & Arpels. It’s so exciting to be located next to some of the most recognized brands in the world, brands that have survived World War II and have a tremendous amount of history behind them. Elena Bulatova is very happy to bring quality art to the most exclusive and selective clientele.
