Tucson Plastic Surgery Foundation Hosted “Beyond Beautiful” Weekend Retreat for Breast Reconstruction Patients

[Tucson, AZ] – The Tucson Plastic Surgery Foundation hosted its inaugural weekend retreat for five breast reconstruction patients on July 14-16, 2023. The “Beyond Beautiful Retreat” was held at the Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort and featured food, gatherings, and a private boudoir photo experience with photographer Jana M. Suchy of Way Out West Creative.

Suchy is a boudoir-style photographer and past collaborator with Drs. Raman Mahabir and Silvia Kurtovic of Tucson Plastic Surgery. Suchy’s past projects include the Pink-Ribbon Boudoir for Breast Cancer Survivors event and the subsequent public photo exhibit in December 2022. Now re-branded as the “Beyond Beautiful” retreat, each breast cancer survivor will receive a personalized photo book documenting their weekend.

“It is easy to believe that the only way to initiate profound change is to take extreme action. Each of us, however, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways,” said Dr. Raman C. Mahabir, MD, FACS. “With this event, we are hoping to help five women from Tucson move beyond their cancer journey and embrace the beauty that they still give to this world.”

The “Beyond Beautiful” retreat hosted five patients who underwent breast reconstruction with Drs. Mahabir and Kurtovic at Tucson Plastic Surgery because of a breast cancer diagnosis. Drs. Mahabir and Kurtovic are two of Tucson’s leading breast reconstruction surgeons and passionate advocates of breast cancer awareness.
