Funded by the Dale Berry Endowment Fund, the purpose of the scholarship is to educate and prepare future orthotic and prosthetic clinicians to produce quality, concise, and compliant clinical documentation. Rebecca Spragg, MSPO, CPO, Associate Professor & Program Coordinator at Eastern Michigan University stated, “This scholarship will provide a positive impact on the students and an immeasurable impact on the patients they serve in the future.”

Dale Berry, CP, CP(c), FAAOP, served his prosthetic residency in Edmonton, Alberta at Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, where he learned the critical importance of clinical documentation when it comes to providing quality patient care. After moving to the US in 1986, his proactive approach to ensuring concise and compliant patient health records remained an indispensable part of his dedication to delivering clinical care.

In his career, he has served 20 years as Vice President of Clinical Operations of the country’s largest provider of Orthotics and Prosthetics, keeping his focus balanced between patient care, documentation, compliance, and operational controls. Today, he is owner of Prosthetic Xpert Consultation and is a nationally recognized expert in prosthetic documentation, compliance, and life cost projections.

The Dale Berry Orthotics and Prosthetics Endowed Scholarship was established to promote the essential relationship between quality clinical documentation and quality patient care.

Jennifer Fritz, Interim Dean of the College of Health and Human Services at EMU, said, “this contribution will provide much-needed financial support for our students and programs, expanding our capacity to impact our communities and health professions broadly.”
